Alternative Baking Company Inc.

For my birthday last week, my best friend sent me a few presents. As she’s currently living in America, she sent me some vegan cookies from an American vegan brand; the Alternative Baking Company. She sent two types, the ‘colossal chocolate chip cookie’ and the ‘outrageous oatmeal raisin cookie with walnuts.’ These cookies are INCREDIBLE. I have tried some vegan cookies before, and previously, they always contain ingredients that I wouldn’t traditionally put in a cookie- I want a cookie I can throw in my handbag and eat on the go, but don’t necessarily want it to contain lots of flax seeds or other such ingredients- whilst these have many health benefits, sometimes you just want a good ol’ chocolate chip cookie!
These cookies contain, “no dairy, no eggs, no honey, no hydrogenated oils, no cholesterol, no preservatives,  no artificial ingredients or refined sugars.’ The company bakes the cookies daily so they are sent out to customers fresh, which you can really taste when you eat them- they don’t taste like a cookie that has been sat on a shelf for weeks on end until you purchase it, and, as I’ve found with some cookies in the past, they’re not super sugary and fake tasting, they really do taste like home baked cookies- because they are!

I saw on the bottom of the packet a little sentence, ‘hot tip! reheat for a special treat!’ So I popped it in the microwave for 30 seconds, and created a bit of magic in my mouth! The cookie itself became chewy and sticky, and the chocolate chips were slightly hard on the outside, and had melted on the inside- all the things I look for in a cookie!

 

I would also highly recommend the oatmeal raisin cookie, before I have seen raisin cookies as a betrayal- when you bite into one expecting it to be chocolate and its a raisin it’s upsetting. However! This one was delicious, and again, I heated this one too so that  it was, again, slightly chewy round the edges and gooey in the middle, who knew it would take losing dairy for me to start loving raisin cookies!

 

A quick look on the companies website (here) showed me there are even more flavours, ones I want to try in the future are ‘Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip’ and the ‘cookie of the season,’ Cocaroon- the company also do a range of gluten free cookies (found here) if these taste as good as the ones I’ve tried I would definitely recommend them! As soon as I tasted the chocolate chip cookie I had to message my friend asking her to send me more- I’m officially converted to Vegan cookies now I know they can taste this good!
