Ditch The Dairy takes the FreeFrom Show, Liverpool

by Laura

This weekend, I was very excited to go to the Free From show at Liverpool Exhibition Centre. I was on the prowl to find the best dairy free finds that would make my tummy and I happy. I’d never been to a free from show before, and didn’t really know what to expect, but I would completely recommend to anyone with any allergies/intolerances to go and check one out- you won’t be disappointed!
If you’re reading this, you’re probably either my mum, or someone suffering from an allergy, and if so, you will know how frustrating it can be to want nice food and not be able to find items that taste just as good as the real thing, just without allergens, or ask someone if there is allergens in a product and receive a blank stare in response as they don’t know what you’re asking- hard to believe but I have been asked what dairy is before. So, it is refreshing to go into an exhibition and find all sorts of lovely food which have been created by the best in the business to be suitable for all of us- I think really good free from food should be enjoyed by everyone and not just eaten by those who have to, if my friends would eat something I have bought free from and say it tastes as good, if not better, than the regular stuff, I know its a good product!
I have found some great things, and more blogs will be coming on them, including hot chocolate, brownie mix and donut mix- all dairy free, all delicious!
This fudge is hands down the best vegan fudge I’ve ever had! Made with almond milk it is rich and sweet, whilst also being sticky and creamy and full of flavour. I got the vanilla flavour, but there was also flavours such as cherry bakewell and bubblegum. You can find their products online however their shop online has limited stock- I can only see the vanilla flavour, which is £16.00 for 750g- which is a huge drawback if you want to order low quantities, however taste and quality wise, you really can’t go wrong- perhaps place an order for all the family to enjoy at Christmas!
These were some lollies from YumEarth Organics which are.. wait for it; organic, vegan, gluten free, peanut free, tree nut free, dairy free, soya free, fat free and are free from artificial colouring and flavouring- phew what a mouthful! I’ve been eating these rather sparingly as they’re so yummy, my favourite is definitely the ‘Pomegranate Pucker’, followed closely by the by the ‘Wet Face Watermelon.’ You can order online and if you have an allergy or not, these are well worth their money, full of flavour until the end (whereas some lollies seem to loose flavour half way through don’t they?) and are pretty guilt free as they’re free from pretty much everything- winning! I have a few plane rides coming up, so I think I will order some of the, ‘Pomegranate Pucker Sweets’ for my travels to stop those pesky ear pops! I’ll update you with any further reviews!
A Christmas Pudding biscuit I hear you cry! Plus its dairy free, gluten free and egg free- what is this sorcery?! I will be doing a more in depth review of the brand, Angelic and the biscuit flavours they offer because I think they are very much worth talking about- to be free of so many allergens and still super delicious, full of flavour with that biscuit-y ‘snap’ is a very rare find indeed- and one which must be reordered and reordered until I am 200 stone and being rolled around like Violet Beauregard.
I met the lovely people at the Vegan society, where I purchased a cook book- watch out for any recipes I produce!
‘Just:’ was one of my favourite finds of the day- their breads are gluten, wheat, dairy and egg free, and are suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Despite being free from the majority of allergens which usually make a bread loaf, this bread was honestly some of the best bread- allergen free or not- I’ve ever tasted! I will definitely be ordering some of this bread online and writing a more in depth review, but if you have any allergies or intolerances, defiantly check out this brand. At the show, they were previewing some exciting new products of a chocolate chip bread- also free of allergens, which even made my parents say ‘wow’- which, trust me, never occurs when eating my allergy food! If you’re gluten free, I know the bread isn’t always impressive, so this is definitely one you need to check out as soon as possible!
These Pudology products are something I am exciting to go more into depth with, I tasted the ‘Deeply Decadent Chocolate Pud’ which was so amazing I actually panicked for a minute I’d been mistaken and it wasn’t actually dairy free! Well it was, as well as gluten free and vegan- win! I was staying in Liverpool overnight and so I couldn’t purchase these at the show, but I tell you now, this isn’t the last you’ll see of Pudology on this blog- I will be stocking my fridge with the range- for research of course.
These products from Delicious Alchemy are mix’s for different products, on display were some vanilla sponge mix, chocolate brownies, some rice flakes and oaty cookie mix. I went with millions of bags of chocolate brownie mix (again.. this will be featured at a later date, I’m a broken record at this point aren’t I?) and a bag of the oaty cookie- the brownie was extremely impressive; so rich and chocolatey whilst being dairy free and gluten free!
Dairy free donuts?! SIGN ME UP! These from Isabel’s instantly caught my eye, and I am more than excited to make these- I haven’t had donuts in what feels like forever, so I need to get my apron on and start baking! Also from the brand I got some batter mix to make some homemade fish and chips, and some Yorkshire pudding mix- as a Yorkshire gal, I have been dying without my beloved puds.
Sainsbury’s, Tesco’s and Asda were also in attendance. The mince pies from Asda were my favourite I tried, from Tesco, I found some chocolate that once I find in the shops will be featured on here, and Sainsbury’s had some little gingerbread men that were very tasty!
This was my face post-show, I was far too full and content after all that yummy food! I can’t wait to go into more depth with some more products I found at the show, if you’re ever able to go to a FreeFrom show, I would definitely recommend you going!
