A Dairy Free Date Night

by Laura
My mum and I were recently having a little date night in Leeds, and, cold and hungry, bundled ourselves into The Handmade Burger Co. The fact neither of us eat beef burgers seemed to have slipped our minds in the cold weather, however it turns out, they have the best, and tastiest vegan food too!
It was amazing how the company have made such a point to label the vegan dishes despite being a burger chain! They have lots of options, I went with the ‘Cajun vegetable and bean burger,’ which was super delicious, slightly spicy but full of flavour with some red onion and salad.
They have a milkshake on the menu, which when I asked about it, they said if it wasn’t a busy Saturday night and if I called in advance to check, they’d have soya milk so they could make me a dairy free shake for desert!
Online, you can see a full allergen menu – they say, “our burgers are made from scratch here in our restaurant everyday using the freshest & finest ingredients. All our burgers are made to order, so if you have a food allergy or a specific dietary requirement, we can customise your food to suit your requirements.” I think that’s a great thing for a restaurant to say so you can feel comfortable eating there!
Afterwards we headed over to Hotel Chocolat Roast + Conch and had the most delicious vegan hot chocolate (made with soya milk and their dark hot chocolate.) I popped a packet of sugar in and boy was it good! Perfect for warming you up after a cold day Christmas shopping!
